You are NOT your Past

Many times I catch myself looking in my rearview mirror,
just wishing that I could have done things differently in my past. If I linger
in my past long enough regret and guilt resurfaces. It’s no one’s fault but my
own, but then I remember that I am not my past. The day I surrendered my life
to Jesus my past mistakes were erased, so why am I looking back at them?

                I think
that we have a bad tendency to look back at the things we did wrong, but Jesus
said that He came to set the captives free!
‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to
proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set
the oppressed free’-Luke 4:18.
came to free us from our bondage.  We
have done things we are not proud of, but once we accept Jesus as our Lord and
Savior our past is of no value. There is no point in looking back. You are now
a new creation. You are not your own anymore, but now you are His forever.

                You are
not your past.  God isn’t keeping tally
of all the things we’ve done wrong. After we repent of our sins, His word
states that He forgets. ‘For I will
forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more’-Hebrews 8:12.
Take the things you’ve done wrong as a
lesson learned. Your mistakes can even help someone else along the way.  If you keep reliving your past you cannot
live in the present. You may even start to go back to your old ways, because you
start making excuses about this is who you are anyway, and that’s just a bold
face lie from the enemy.

                If the
past keeps resurfacing, and you are trying to make a choice to do right or
wrong; remember that God makes a way out of all temptation.   ‘No temptation
has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he
will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,
he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it’-1 Corinthians 10:13.
backslide, but if you do you can always come back to Him. He will be waiting,
because the God that we serve is a God of mercy and grace. Run back to Him as
fast as you can. You may feel like He’s tired of you, and that you’ll never do
right. That’s not true. You’re never too dirty for God. He will always want

is no point in turning back. For example: Imagine that you’ve never had a car,
and have been walking everywhere you need to go for years. Then one day you
finally get a car. Are you going to focus on the days you walked, or are you
going to enjoy that new car?

stay in God’s light. The chains of sin have been broken. There’s no point in
focusing on them, and eventually putting them back on. Enjoy being free!

Remember that you are loved by the Most High, and that I
love you too!
