Aim High

“He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was
strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what
He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore it was accounted to
him for righteousness.” –Romans 4:20-22

                Abraham
and Sarah were very old before they conceived Isaac. Sarah’s womb was basically
shut tight, and filled with scrambled eggs by then. Amazingly God had other
plans. He promised them a son, even in their old age. I’m sure that God has
made you some promises too. They may seem far-fetched and crazy, but nothing is
impossible for God.

                Recently
I went to a concert. I had been admiring this rapper named Dee-1 for a while
now.  I felt led to paint him, and to
give it to him. I kind of thought it would be far-fetched. There would be a ton
of people in the crowd. Who am I to think that he’d notice me and my painting?
I asked God what would be the purpose in all of this. He simply said, “Expect
the unexpected.”

Dee-1 did a full set. It was the very end of his show, and he still
hadn’t noticed me or my painting. I started to think well maybe I am crazy. As
he was starting to tell the crowd goodnight he looked over and noticed my
mother waving the painting in the air. My mom pointed at me and yelled, “She
painted this!” He looked at me and said, “You painted this for me?” With a huge
and nervous smile I said “Yes.”  He
noticed the details, and came off stage. I just couldn’t look at him. I was so
nervous. He was standing right beside me.
He kissed me on the cheek, and whispered in my ear, “Thank you queen.”
My artwork is now somewhere chilling in New Orleans with one of my favorite
rappers.

                That
whole experience made me realize that majority of my life I had been aiming
low. I had been settling for mediocrity for so long, and I know I’m not the
only one. I remember growing up admiring people that never reciprocated any
feelings back towards me, but here’s this famous rapper kissing me on the
cheek, appreciating my hard work in front of a crowd, and calling me a queen
(no one has ever called me a queen by the way). He didn’t know that he was
reflecting what God has been trying to tell me about myself for years. We don’t
mean to aim low. We just feel undeserving of the amazing things that God has to
offer us. God wants us to aim higher than we’ve ever dreamt of. That moment was
just a taste of what God is about to do in my life. I’m no longer settling for
less than what I deserve.

                Be
encouraged. What God may be telling you might sound crazy, but faith was never
meant to make sense. Faith is believing in what we cannot see. Your
circumstances may not look like where God is about to take you, but He will
take you there. Once God has given you a word; take it, and run with it. He will
never change His mind. He does not lie, so believe and trust in Him. Be like
Abraham and believe.

Imagine if I had never listened to
God instructing me to paint that picture, and take it to that concert. I
wouldn’t have had an experience that will last me for a lifetime. Plus I would
still be aiming low (ironically Dee-1’s album is called Slingshot David
lol).  There is a great reward along with
your obedience and faith, so AIM HIGH.
Nothing is far-fetched.

Remember that God loves you so
much, and that I love you too!
